In essence, customer profiling involves careful scrutiny of even loyal customers’ credit records to determine an individual’s repayment ethic and his or her so-called “risk factor”. It is estimated that as many as 116,000 UK homeowners are at risk of not being able to renew or extend their mortgage deals which are scheduled to expire before the year is over.
To make matters worse, good mortgage deals are only extended to borrowers who are able to put down first-time deposits of at least 25% of the value of the home they are purchasing. It is not difficult to see why this could be a problem for the average, cash-strapped first-time home buyer.
In turn, the situation has dire implications for homeowners looking to sell their homes. These strict – and almost impossible – mortgage conditions are making it difficult for buyers to approach property sellers with suitable offers. In the meantime, house prices are dropping to a record low and there seems to be no hope in sight for people with property to sell.
