Property purchasers still buying houses

The current situation in the property industry is dire, but according to research homeowners are still willing to sell to property purchasers.

The falling property values and decreasing profit margins seem to not be affecting as many people as expected. A recent study done by one of the UK’s major financial service groups, Alliance & Leicester revealed that one out of every eight homeowners still wants to sell their property in the next year.

This means that approximately 13% of homeowners are, or will be, seeking property purchasers for their houses within a year.

Other homeowners are taking a different route. Instead of selling they reckon it is better to improve their homes, which in effect will increase the value of their properties and give them a bigger profit margin when they are ready to sell.

The research done indicates that those improvements deemed by homeowners as value-adders include re-decorating, routine maintenance and outdoor improvement, adding extensions and making their living spaces more environmentally friendly.

Estate agents agree that in order to considerably improve the worth of a home, homeowners need to add extra living space. Homeowners can transform ‘unusable’ areas, such as the cellar, basement or even the garage, into living spaces. Literally expanding any house by adding extensions and thus creating an extra room will definitely increase the house’s value.
